Moody swings, hot flashes, weight gain, low sex drive. These are just some of the symptoms of menopause. Menopause is a very natural and important occurrence in a women’s life. Most women experience some of these symptoms soon after reaching 40 and are in this stage for a good part of there life.

Interestingly enough about 70% of women experience these symptoms and this is part of the aging process. Now peri-menopause starts years before you even stop having your period, you can start to experience those nasty mood swings, hot flashes, and loss of sex drive.

Menopause means that you will not menstruate any more. You can no longer become pregnant and many women feel freer and actually enjoy sex more with their partner. That nagging fear of pregnancy is gone.

Some women experience severe symptoms during menopause and there is treatment to help them get through it.

Hormone replacement therapy is widely used for menopausal symptoms and it is a preventive for osteoporosis and heart disease. Hormone therapy is for the most part safe but keep in mind it is not for everyone. Some women have a bad reaction to the therapy.

Do some research and talk to your doctor about the side effects and if hormone therapy would be good for you. There are some other alternatives to consider and if they work

Looking into vitamin E, and eating soy, some claim that it helps hot flashes
Supplements and herbs, which are natural like flaxseed, evening primrose and black cohosh, are thought to relieve some menopausal symptoms.

As always, research and be sure that, they are safe, and again talk to your doctor before you try any natural herb or supplement.
